Books, Bands & Babes
Since I didn't seem to update this blog enough in past months. I've really been trying to lately. So here's a mixed post, it's still filled with a bunch of reviews and recommendations. There's a special section where I talk about actresses and import models that I believe deserve a bit more recognition, if you're not into that, just stop later on in this post.
So let's start off with books. I've been reading off and on again in the last few months, so I've polished off a few. Consider the following list all recommended reading.
a) The Chrysalids by John Wyndham
What it's about - The main character, David, lives in a place where if you do not fit in with the genetic norm, you're outcasted and punished. David looks normal on the outside but he seems to be able to speak to other select people with his mind. If anyone were to find out about David and the people he spoke to mentally, they would certainly be screwed.
Why you should read it - The idea's cool, it's short at 200 pages and contains so many events, that it's quite action packed.
b) Life of Pi by Yann Martel
What it's about - The main character, Pi Partel, gets tossed out to sea and must survive on a lifeboat with a Tiger.
Why you should read it - It starts off a little slow but once he gets lost at sea, the real story begins. You almost start believing that all of this actually happened. He also writes with great insight, so you get treated to his well stated opinions on multiple subjects. If all that isn't enough to convince you, I actually saw someone in Waterloo wearing a white t-shirt with the cover of this book printed on it.
c) Kill The Messenger by Tami Hoag
What it's about - The main character is a bike messenger named Jace Damon. He gets a package from some sleazy lawyer. Well, it seems later the lawyer was killed by someone looking for the package. Unfortunately for Jace, the cops think he did it. Now, he's on the run with a package that could get him killed and from the police who believe he's a murderer.
Why you should read it - After reading some family friendly books, it was nice to read an author that wasn't shy about using some swear words. Lots of people say fuck, believe me it's true. Aside from that, the book is written in such a way that you find yourself rooting for the main character pretty early on in the book.
d) The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis
I read all the Chronicles of Narnia several months ago. It's hard to pick a favourite, I think you should read them all but if you have to choose one, this is my pick.
What it's about: Edmund and Lucy go with their dickhead of a cousin, Eustace, back to Narnia. They join King Caspian in an effort to find seven lords who were banished when King Caspian's throne was stolen.
Why you should read it: I believe this is one of the more adventurous books of the lot. I mean there's monopods, a magician, a sea serpent, the list just goes on and on. Definitely a fun read.
e) Angels & Demons by Dan Brown
What it's about - The first book Robert Langdon is featured in. In this one, he uses his knowledge to find the ancient lair of the Illimunati, who seem to have surfaced again and have planted a bomb inside Vatican City.
Why you should read it: It's better than the DaVinci Code. It just seems to have less filler and the twists in it are even better, if you can believe that. I didn't really have a top pick out of these books but if I was forced to make one I guess this would be it.
Now on to bands. I'm pretty much just going to talk about what I'm currently listening to. I realize not everyone likes what I do but I'll still say that these are my recommendations.
a) Fort Minor - I like Linkin Park so it's no surprise I like them. Mike Shinoda is front lining this project. They definitely have more songs with lots of beats and rapping than most of Linkin Park's songs. They do have some pretty heartfelt songs also. The lyrics are simple and enjoyable to listen to. You probably heard one of their songs if you're into the NBA. Their song Remember the Name is this year's NBA theme. Anyways, you can go to http://www.myspace.com/fortminor and listen to their most popular songs. The song Where'd You Go by them is one of my favourites.
b) Joshua Radin - I'm not sure if this guy is acting or what. Whenever he sings, you just feel his emotions. I guess the closest thing I could think of to compare this to is Death Cab for Cutie. If you're into emo, this is pretty much the definition of it. Anyways go to http://www.myspace.com/joshuaradin. I like his song The Fear You Won't Fall, I have no idea why it's not on his CD.
c) The Postal Service - Speaking of Death Cab for Cutie, their lead singer Ben Gibbard is also the lead singer for this band. It's difficult to describe but it's really like a deeper version of Death Cab for Cutie. I really don't know how to explain it any way else. You can go to http://www.myspace.com/thepostalservice but it doesn't have my favourite song by them, This Place is a Prison.
d) The Arcs. I don't think their cd is out yet but if you googled them you would find their site with many of their tracks (http://www.newmusiccanada.com/genres/artist.cfm?Band_Id=17619). Flash was the first one to tell me about them, so if you like their music, thank him. Sleek lyrics, decent guitar playing and good vocals make their music something worth listening to.
e) Angels & Airwaves - I guess Tom DeLonge of Blink 182 was being held back by his partners. His new cd has him doing by the sounds of it, all the singing. The songs have killed off most of that pop feeling that Blink 182's songs were notorious for. If you liked Blink 182 at one point in your life but seemed to have matured out of it. Give them a chance because Tom DeLonge's music has matured as well. You can go to http://www.myspace.com/angelsandairwaves and listen to some of their tracks.
Now this is where you can stop reading Omega (It's okay to think other girls are pretty dude). Now these are girls that have been forgotten or who's careers are in question. I'm here to say that they deserve to be put back in the public eye if only to show off their beauty.
7. Denise Richards. This girl is on the brink, she's had issues with Charlie Sheen and hasn't put out a decent film since around 1999. However, let's not forget that she made out with Neve Campbell in Wild Things, that should keep her famous forever. Here's a picture of her with one of her co-stars from The World Is Not Enough.
6. Dannell Harris. She's pretty much known from the WB series One Tree Hill. This girl is only 24 but seems to be only able to hold onto short time roles on popular TV series. She's going to have to make a move soon. Pretty much the prettiest red head that was on TV this season.
5. Shannon Elizabeth. Her brief stint in the 70's show may have saved her from disappearing altogether but the absence of her in films has really taken it's toll. Still if there was any sexier moment than Neve Campbell and Denise Richards making out in blockbuster movie history, Shannon playing with herself in American Pie would have to be it.
4. Kaley Cuoco. She pretty much made a name for herself in 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter. That show was cancelled and since then she has moved to the WB Series Charmed. I don't know how much longer that show will last but a blonde couldn't hurt that heavily dark haired cast.
3. Rachel Stevens. I'm guessing you haven't heard that name in a while. It seems like she's the only one that was able to have a solo career after S Club 7 disbanded (I guess their song "Don't Stop" wasn't something they wanted to listen to either). With girls like Hilary Duff, Kelly Clarkson, and Christina Millan, I really don't know how she can compete. Still she's damn sexy and I wouldn't mind seeing her in a new TV show or movie.
2. Sung Hi Lee. I'm sure if you googled her name, you would probably just get her playmate photos but she's been breaking into the TV and movie industry ever so slowly. I remember catching her in the TV show, Mortal Kombat: Conquest. She's made several cameos since then. I'm hoping for her to start appearing in more films and shows.
1. Eliza Dushku. You should remember her as the bad ass slayer from the TV show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She was seriously bitchin' back then. She did solid movies like City By The Sea and Bring It On. Just like the title of the film she did in 2003, she really did take a Wrong Turn. After that she gained some stability with the show Tru Calling but because of the odd times a lot of the episodes were played, it never really gained enough of an audience, so it died during the second season. It looks like she may be making a small comeback with a couple films. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Well, it started a few days ago when I thought about a car show I went to a few years back. I don't have too much interest in cars but I do enjoy import models. So if you're not on the scene, here are just a few reasons you should be. It should be said that there are hundreds of reasons you should be.
3. Francine Dee. She's considered one of the queens of the import scene. Sure she obviously has implants but her looks have probably gotten quite a few guys to buy a car part or two, even when they don't own a vehicle.
2. Masiumi Max. This girl is seriously bad ass. I first found out about her through the import model scene but later I found out this chick is crazy. She was on Fear Factor, she's a fire eater and she seriously likes tattoos and weapons.
1. Tila Tequila/Nguyen. This girl is only four-foot-eleven but she owns myspace. Well, not exactly but she does have the most popular page on it. This is something she said in an interview with Stuff magazine, "Sex...is the one place where you can be uninhibited and go wherever your fantasies take you." Now that's hot. She's evidently a singer, I don't like her music at all but I could listen to her sing "I don't want any love, I just want to get screwed" anytime.
Like I said this could go on for a very long time. I think I've done my duty by telling you about these ten smokin' girls.
